Set up shipping for Wix fulfilment

Learn how to match your Wix shipping options and rates with Inkthreadable's

Updated over a week ago

Follow this step-by-step guide to configure your Wix store to sell Inkthreadable products to anyone, anywhere in the world.

How does Wix calculate shipping?

Wix has several methods for handling shipping costs for your customers: price-based, weight-based, or product-based. At Inkthreadable we calculate all shipping costs based on the weight, so to set up your Wix shipping rates you'll need to use the same method.

This means you should always select 'Rate by Weight' to calculate your shipping costs. If you'd like to offer any promotions like free shipping then you can do that too, but this won't follow our own shipping costs so won't be covered in this guide.

Shipping rates vary by parcel weight and destination, and this means you have some freedom when it comes to offering free shipping based on those variables. For example, you can offer free shipping to the UK for certain parcel weights or even for a full service such as Royal Mail 48 by setting the cost to 0.00 for these variants in your Wix store. If you're new to Wix shipping rates, then this will make more sense as you follow the guide.

Let's get started!

Selecting Fulfilment Partner

This step is optional and won't affect your shipping costs. However, it will be useful for those who are offering products from several fulfilment locations.

Optional: Add Inkthreadable as fulfilment partner

First, click Settings and then 'Store Shipping'.

We'll need to create a new fulfilment service so that you always know which products are being fulfilled by us.

Click ‘Connect Service’ to add Inkthreadable as your fulfilment partner.

Enter Inkthreadable: info@inkthreadable.co.uk, and under "How do you want to send the email?" select 'Send it myself'.

We don’t need to receive fulfilment requests because this works automatically through the integration. However, it’s useful to add this to ensure that you know which products we are fulfilling if you’re using a mixture of fulfilment services.

Assigning weight values to your Wix products

Before adding shipping rates, you should double-check the weight values of your products to make sure that orders will be charged the correct amount.

If you export products from our website, then the weights will already be correct. But, if you're linking existing products, then you will need to follow the next steps carefully.

Currently, it is not possible to bulk edit product weights so each product has to be checked one by one.

To edit the weight, navigate to your dashboard and click Store Products. Select the product you'd like to edit, and then scroll down to Manage Variants.

Click, Edit, select all, and then Set Weight. Make sure to hit Apply and then Save.

If your Wix product page doesn't look the above, don't worry! Hit Manage pricing and inventory for variants, and you'll then see the right options.

For example, a hoodie is 200g, so you should enter 0.2kg. Follow this table for other weights:

We recommend checking this for every product, to make sure. Once you've checked your first product, click the right arrow to move on to the next product and repeat!

Creating your Wix shipping rates

To begin creating your rates, from the dashboard, click Settings > Store Shipping.

At the top of this page, you'll see the 'Shipping and Fulfillment' heading. This is where we'll populate the methods available to your customers when checking out through your store.

If you have any regions here already, select Edit Shipping Rule > ... > Delete Shipping Region. We'll be creating ours from scratch, so these won't be necessary.

Click 'Add Region' to begin setting up the rates for the first region.

Type in 'United Kingdom' to the title at the top of the page, and also into the field 'Add destinations for this region'.

Under Shipping, select 'Rate by Weight'.

Beneath this, we can add your first shipping option to the UK region. Which option you add here varies depending on which service you'd like to use. I'll demonstrate how to add Royal Mail 48 Tracked, but the process will remain the same for others, and you aren't obliged to offer all of them.

Each of the fields in this window are important for different reasons:

Shipping Option Name

This is what your customers will see, but it also needs to contain a specific keyword so that our system assigns the correct shipping method to the order when it comes through to your Inkthreadable account. You can find the correct keywords further below.

Enter 'Royal Mail 48 Tracked', or '48 Tracked'.

Minimum weight & Maximum weight

The minimum & maximum weight of the order, so the rate you're creating will apply to orders within this range. This is where the weight values assigned to each product come into play. Any combination of products will fall into one of these weight brackets.

We'll create a rate for each weight bracket available under every shipping method. The first weight range should have a minimum weight of 0kg, and the maximum weight of 0.1kg.

Price

We'll fill this field with the price you pay Inkthreadable, but you can charge as much or as little as you like for each rate. If you want to offer free shipping for any specific rates, leave it at £0.00.

For Royal Mail 48 Tracked, enter £2.12.

Add the rest of the weight ranges

Click '+ Add Range', and fill in the second weight range.

The second weight range is 0.11 - 0.69. This ensures that orders weighing over 100g but under 700g will only be shown this rate at checkout.

The final rate, 0.7kg and up, should be set to £11.99.

Currently, in Wix it isn't possible to set a maximum weight, and so we should charge the cost for DPD despite this being under Royal Mail 48 Tracked (you can help us out by voting for this feature with Wix here).

This means that Royal Mail shipping methods will be shown at checkout when an order weighs 700g or more, but the order will actually be shipped with DPD courier.

We've just set up our first shipping rate! Now any orders of up to 0.099 kg being shipped to the UK will automatically have the shipping rate calculated at £0.86 when the Royal Mail 48 option is selected at checkout.

Click 'Save' to make sure the changes are saved.

The next step is to set up each individual rate based on weight and destination, following the same steps that we just used to add Royal Mail 48 Tracked.

When adding the rates, it’s important to ensure your shipping rates include the correct keywords for each shipping method.

Our system looks for keywords when an order is received from your Squarespace store, and to avoid mistakes, these keywords should be used in the name of each shipping method:

After saving your UK rates, click 'Add region' from the Shipping and Fulfillment page. Call this region 'Europe'.

Type or copy and paste the following countries in Europe under the Region heading:

  • Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vatican City.

USA shipping rates

Next, we're going to create a zone for the USA.

Once you've saved your Europe rates, scroll down to click the 'Add region' link again.

Name the zone 'USA' or something similar to help you identify it, and then add the United States under Region.

Select Rate by Weight, and we can now enter the details for the USPS shipping option.

There are two shipping methods which ship to the United States: USPS and Courier.

Enter USPS in the Name field, and complete the following rates:

Hit the 'Save' button. That's your US rates completed!

Don't worry if you notice the rate for 0.15kg is slightly higher than other weight brackets; it's not a mistake! We've ensured these prices are as cost-effective as possible, based on parcel size and weight. This bracket will only apply to single mugs, which cost us more to ship to the USA, than 2 x t-shirts at 200g.

Rest of World shipping rates

The last steps to finish your rates are to cover the rest of the world. All remaining countries will be covered under one zone.

Once your rates for Australia have been saved, click the 'Add region' link one last time.

This zone should be called Rest of World, and rather than searching or adding countries manually, you can check the 'Rest of the World' checkbox at the top of the list.

Then, follow the same method to add the following rates to the Rest of World zone:

And that's it. You've now created rates for all services shipping to all destinations!

Test your checkout

At this stage, it's a good idea to add some products to your basket to see what the shipping rates come to. Test different product combinations and shipping destinations, too; you want to make sure your store is calculating rates correctly.

After this step, your shipping rates should perfectly match ours.

Congrats! 🎉 That's everything. Your store will now charge your customer shipping in the same way that Inkthreadable charges you for shipping your orders.
