Edit WooCommerce product pages after export

Learn how to edit your product pages after you've exported from Inkthreadable

Exporting a product from Inkthreadable to WooCommerce creates a product in your store. Information like the product title, description, variants, weight, and mockup images are all exported. And everything is editable.

Editing WooCommerce product pages doesn't affect the link between your products and Inkthreadable, with one exception - amending variants. If you add or edit any variants they will appear as unlinked when viewing your linking page.

If you add any variants, follow our guide for manually linking WooCommerce products to get them linked.

Editing WooCommerce product pages

Log in to your WooCommerce store and navigate to your products at Dashboard > Products > All products.

You'll find a list of every product in your store, whether created yourself or exported from Inkthreadable. There are a few different ways to edit products, but the best option to be able to edit everything on one page is to click into the product.

Click the name of the product you want to edit.

Editing your WooCommerce product title, URL & description

At the top of the page you'll see where to edit these basic details.

To edit the title & description, click into each field and type your edits. Remember to be creative, these will help sell your product. The product description should already be populated with key details about the product so it's worth keeping or at least using parts of this to create your own description.

The URL permalink is the address for your product, and it has an Edit button for a reason. It needs an additional click to make sure you actually want to edit it.

If your product has been live for some time, especially if it's popular, the page will be generating SEO authority. That authority is tied to the URL, so if you change it you lose it. If the page has only just been created you can edit the URL without worrying.

You may be able to set up re-directs instead, though you'll need to speak to WooCommerce support for help with that.

Editing your product category

Categories help customers navigate and choose the right products. You can edit your product categories on the right hand side, beneath the product image.

The product likely wont be categorised yet. If you already have some categories set up you can check the boxes next to those you want to use, otherwise add new ones.

To add a new category, click the + Add new category button. Give it a name and a parent category if it requires one.

In the example above, the Adults & Unisex categories sit beneath the parent category T-Shirts. You could flip this around and have Unisex as a parent category, with different product types like T-Shirts and Hoodies beneath it. Do what makes sense for your store.

Editing product images

Your exported products will already have some images saved. You might want to update these to swap them out for your own lifestyle or studio images if you've ordered samples for photography.

There are 3 areas to consider when editing your product images.

Product image

Displays by default when customers are browsing your site.

Variant image

Displays when alternative variants are selected on the product page.

Product gallery images

Where you save alternative product images.

Uploading to your Product gallery

On export, mockups are saved to each variant and as the main product image. No images are saved to the gallery.

To edit any images you'll first need to upload them to your Product gallery images. Click the Add product gallery images found beneath the Product image on the right hand side. Upload your images.

Updating the product image

Find the Product image displayed on the right hand side. You can either click the link to remove it, or click the image to replace it. Clicking the image will allow you to browse your Product gallery images and select the one you want to use.

Updating variant images

Variant images are controlled at the variant level. Scroll to the Product data section, click Variations, and click any variant to expand it.

Hover over the variant image and the option to remove it will appear. Click to remove it, then replace it with one from your Product gallery images.

Repeat this for any variant you'd like to update the image for.

Editing product weights

Product weights are defined on export by default. If a weight is wrong or missing it will affect your shipping rates, either by charging customers the incorrect amount, by not allowing them to check out, or by not passing orders to Inkthreadable by fulfilment.

If you want to add or update these weights, click the Variations tab and expand your variants. For each variant being edited, enter the new weight in the Weight (kg) field.

If your weight unit is different you may need to set up your shipping rates.

Editing or adding variations

Under the Attributes tab you can edit existing attributes, or add new attributes to generate new variants. By default, exported products include all required attributes to generate each variant.

To edit an Attribute, click the attribute to expand it. You can edit the Name, and add or remove Value(s). To add more colour variants for example, expand the Colour attribute and add new colour Value(s), each separated by a pipe (|) symbol.

To add an Attribute click the Add new button and input the Name and Value(s).

Any new variants created by adding new Attributes or Value(s) will need linking manually. Editing an attribute's Name or Value(s) may cause them to become unlinked and will likewise need linking manually. Learn how to link products manually here.

Editing product price

Price is controlled at a variant level and is found under the same Variations tab.

Click a variant to expand its options. Enter the new price in the Regular price (£) field. Your currency may display differently, but it works the same. If your store uses an alternative currency make sure your product costs cover the production cost as Inkthreadable charges in GBP.

You can set or schedule a Sale price (£) in the field next to the Regular Price (£).

Saving changes

Click the Update button towards the top of the page to save all changes made.

Remember: some changes may need you to follow up by manually linking new or edited variants. You can learn how to do this here.
